About

Occupational Therapy

Is your child super sensitive to feelings in their body or environment? Does your child display "too big of reactions" to small problems at home or school? Do you struggle to stay calm when they are freaking out?! Suzanne is here to help you! Suzanne is a pediatric occupational therapist, as well as a yoga teacher who specializes in co-regulation. Suzanne will work with you and your child to teach about emotional regulation, establish language for improved communication, and create a sensory-based tool kit to manage big emotions and feelings. What makes this OT experience different? Working in a pediatric outpatient clinic, I’ve found there is limited time built into our schedule to work with caregivers, and doing it in front of a busy-bee child can be a big challenge! Yet, caregivers play a crucial role in the overall success of OT services for your child. If you are not regulated, how do you expect your child to be regulated? If you do not know the strategies, how do you expect your child to use them in times of difficulty? In order to maximize success, Suzanne will set up 1:1 consultations with you throughout your child's duration of therapy to see what is working… and what we still need to address! Depending on the package you purchase, the number of consultations will vary. Therapy will take place in the child’s natural environment. Pediatric clinic spaces can be tons of fun—we set up big obstacle courses with hanging swings, rock walls, and crash pads… but this cannot be carried over in most children's homes. Suzanne will find creative ways to make your current environment work to best support your child’s sensory needs and give them the input their body is craving. **When a child’s sensory threshold has not been met, they will seek out other ways to meet it—often in unsafe or rambunctious ways (and of course, often right before bed or a time of transition).** Given that therapy is taking place in the natural environment, Suzanne can establish new, improved routines in real time—whether that be with transitions, meal time, or bed time. Does Sunshine Occupational Therapy accept insurance? Sunshine Occupational Therapy is a private pay practice. We are happy to provide you with a Superbill that you can give to your insurance company and they will directly reimburse you.
